The Artist Sees What Others Only Catch A Glimpse Of – Leonardo Da Vinci

No one would argue with the idiom that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Indeed, it is part of our individuality.
Yet, we often do not see the beauty in the details that surround us. The elements within nature, architecture,
technology, and life – so many things hidden in plain sight – can be instantly intriguing, if only they get some
                              attention.

Our lives have been kicked into high speed, moving so quickly we rarely allow time to step back and take in
the whole picture, let alone the details. How do we change this? How can we get people to slow down, take
a breath, look around, absorb their surroundings? Some might say it’s impossible in this age of technology,
digital onslaught, portable devices, social media and instant gratification. Scarier still is the cultural movement
powered by the “good enough” mentality that has decided things that are of “reasonable” quality are good
enough. True quality, beauty, performance, and appreciation need cheerleaders who will push the issue and
force people to embrace the extraordinary. Strive for it. Celebrate it. Share it.

The artist Georgia O’Keeffe said, “Nobody sees a flower – really – it is so small it takes time – we haven’t time – and to see
takes time, like to have a friend takes time.”

Here’s to opening our eyes and taking a moment to appreciate the details that surround us.
